Coachella joins Los Angeles, Long Beach, San Francisco, San Jose, and Sacramento as the latest California city to receive half a million dollars in what they’re calling “local equity grant” money from the Bureau of Cannabis Control. Although cannabis will still be banned from the widely known Coachella Valley Music & Arts Festival, the grant will more than likely make cannabis easier to procure in the surrounding area. The program, which looks to assist those in communities impacted by cannabis criminalization, has doled out a total of $10MM to the state of California. (By comparison, Illinois has gotten about $2MM more.) You can read more about the California grant here, and see how companies like Desert Hot Springs’ Canndescent are taking advantage of the influx of money into the region in this article.
